SIC (US 1987) : The Greenville Area Historical Society was organized in 1978 by a group of dedicated Greenville citizens, to preserve the rich history of our town. There are currently 250 active members. The Society maintains a museum - The Waugh House at 23 West Main Street. The Society sponsors activities such as ethnic heritage festivals, walking tours and an oral history program focusing on longtime area residents. A tour and a talk on Greenville history is provided for school classes visiting the museum. Assistance in research on local history is available on request.
Mission Statement: The mission of the Greenville Area Historical Society is to create an awareness and an appreciation of the history of the Greenville area and its people. It is proposed that this goal be pursued in the following manner:
